To be honest, turning 60 brings a lot of mixed feelings. On one hand, I’m so happy to reach this fine, ripe age and a bit apprehensive of what’s ahead. But if my 60th birthday was any indication of what’s ahead, I’m in for a fantastic voyage.
My family and I spent my birthday in Belize, enjoying the culture, people, and experiences that Belize has to offer. We stayed at Ghan Eden Belize, a wonderful boutique hotel located in the Cayo district. We went shopping at the Belmopan farmer’s market, floated on inner tubes through Belizean caves, and lounged by the Caribbean Sea in Hopkins. Our kids also went zip lining and ATV riding. But by far our best experiences were with the owner and employees at Ghan Eden Belize. From driving us around the country, to bringing us fresh coconut water each morning and picking and peeling cassava roots that I cooked for dinner, our local guides were friendly, welcoming, and willing to educate us on Mayan history and culture. It was a very memorable trip for the entire family.
I truly stepped into my 60s like a boss – and I have the t-shirt to prove it!
