I waited until after 30 to have my first child and I remember my father saying, “When are you going to give me grandchildren? Soon, I’ll be too old to get on the floor and play with them.” But I didn’t let that rush me into having a family. I first wanted to complete my master’s degree before starting a family – which I did.
But now I know how my father felt. Until recently, I was the only one among my close friends without grandchildren. And while I didn’t want to rush my children, I longed for a little person to spoil and brag on.
I got my wish, through an extended family. My son is engaged to a wonderful young lady, who also has a daughter. So, I get a daughter-in-law and granddaughter, all at the same time. What a wonderful package.
My granddaughter is the smartest 7-year-old on the planet. Beautiful, kind and wise beyond her years (spoken like a true grandma). It doesn’t matter if grandchildren are through blood, or through marriage, they’re a blessing and I’m so excited that we’re now all family. So, I can officially say I’m now in the grandparents’ club, and I’m thrilled!
Since, I’m new at this, feel free to share some of your grandparent tips with me. I’m learning one day at a time.
Congratulations on being a Grandma! This was nice to read
