It’s time for Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning is something that hasn’t gone out of style over the years. We did it as youth, and we still do it now. But did you know that spring cleaning is both literal and symbolic? We really do clean the house, clearing out the dust that accumulates in a closed-up home over the winter. But it also symbolizes renewal and a fresh start to the new season. A time of vibrant growth and possibilities. Spring cleaning can also give you a mental reset – because as you clear your space you also clear your mind.

What are some tips for spring cleaning?

  • Start small, so you’re not overwhelmed
    • Tackle one space or room at a time. And give yourself grace if it takes longer than you originally planned.
  • Make a checklist to stay organized
    • Having a list will help you keep track of what needs to be done. It also serves as encouragement as you check off things on the list that have been completed, giving you a sense of accomplishment.
  • Have a plan for your things
    • Review each item with the intent of keeping, donating, or discarding. Don’t overthink it, and be realistic about whether it’s something you’ll use.
  • Try to make it fun
    • Have you ever put on some upbeat music while you’re cleaning? If not, give it a try. It’s really energizing and before long you’ll find yourself singing along and forget that you’re actually working.

So, what should you clean? Add these to your list:

  • Light fixtures and ceiling fans. These accumulate dust, so using a microfiber cloth to capture the dust is helpful.
  • Curtains and blinds – Wash or dryer toss curtains to refresh. Mix soap, vinegar, and water to clean blinds, wiping each slat with a cloth.
  • Kitchen cabinets, refrigerator, and stove. Remove items and wipe shelves.
  • Bedroom mattress and blankets. Vacuum the mattress, first sprinkling with a little baking soda, to freshen and remove allergens.
